In Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 the Employees Provident Fund Scheme has been regulated. PF registration is mandatory for the establishments which have more than 20 employees. However, organizations of less than 20 employees can voluntarily adopt this scheme. PF is paid by the employer and the amount is 6% of the basic salary + dearness allowance + retaining allowance. The same amount is contributed by the employee to PF. In case of an organization having employs less than 20 or following certain rules under EPFO, then the PF contributed will be 10% by both the employee and the employer.
Main Pointers of PF Registration
PF return is filed by the registered entity on 25th of every month. Whereas annual PF return has to be filed before 25th April for 31st March of the year.
Payment towards Provident fund should be initiated employer on the 15th of every month either at 10% or 12% rate.
To improve ease of doing business, all services relating to provident funds like PF registration, PF return filing and payment of PF contribution has been made available online through the Unified Portal.
Employees who have contributed toward the Provident fund scheme can withdraw their PF any time using the unified portal.
